Sesame chicken is a popular Chinese dish consisting of breaded and deep-fried chicken pieces coated in a sweet and savory sesame sauce. It is commonly served with steamed rice and vegetables like broccoli, bell peppers, and carrots.
Here’s a recipe for sesame chicken:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- sliced green onions, for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. Dip each chicken piece in the beaten eggs and then coat in the flour mixture.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a small saucepan, combine the garlic, honey, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cook over medium heat until the mixture comes to a simmer.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth. Add to the saucepan and whisk until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
- Toss the fried chicken pieces with the sesame sauce until coated. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions before serving. Enjoy!
