Macaroni and cheese is a classic comfort food that is loved by many. Here is a simple recipe for making macaroni and cheese at home:
Ingredients:

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions until it is al dente.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  4. Whisk in the flour until smooth and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Gradually whisk in the milk and continue to cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture is smooth and thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Stir in the salt and black pepper.
  7. Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the saucepan and stir until it is melted and the sauce is smooth.
  8. Drain the cooked macaroni and add it to the saucepan with the cheese sauce. Stir to combine.
  9. Pour the macaroni and cheese into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  10. If desired, sprinkle breadcrumbs or crushed crackers over the top of the macaroni and cheese.
  11. Bake the macaroni and cheese for 20-25 minutes, or until it is hot and bubbly and the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
