Guacamole

Guacamole is a delicious and creamy Mexican dip made primarily from ripe avocados. It is often enjoyed as a condiment or as a dip with tortilla chips, tacos, quesadillas, or as a topping for various dishes. Here’s a simple and flavorful guacamole recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 small red onion, finely diced
  • 1-2 jalapeño peppers, seeds and membranes removed, finely diced (adjust to your desired level of spiciness)
  • 1-2 small tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cut the avocados in half lengthwise and remove the pits. Scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado flesh with a fork until it reaches your desired consistency. You can leave it slightly chunky or make it smoother depending on your preference.
  3. Add the finely diced red onion, jalapeño peppers, diced tomatoes, and chopped cilantro to the mashed avocado.
  4. Squeeze the juice of one lime over the mixture to add a tangy flavor and to prevent the avocados from browning. Mix well.
  5. Add the minced garlic, ground cumin, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir until all the ingredients are well combined.
  6. Taste the guacamole and adjust the seasonings if needed. You can add more lime juice, salt, or pepper according to your preference.
  7. Transfer the guacamole to a serving bowl and cover it with plastic wrap, ensuring the plastic wrap is in direct contact with the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning. Alternatively, you can press the pits back into the guacamole, which can help slow down the oxidation process.
  8. Let the guacamole sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. Serve the guacamole with tortilla chips or as a topping for your favorite Mexican dishes.

Enjoy the creamy, flavorful goodness of homemade guacamole! It’s a versatile dip that adds a burst of freshness to any meal or gathering. Remember to store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within a day or two.
