Fish curry

Fish curry is a popular dish in many parts of the world, especially in coastal regions where seafood is plentiful. It typically consists of a spicy and tangy tomato-based sauce or gravy, flavored with a blend of aromatic spices, and cooked with fish pieces. Here’s a recipe you can try at home:

Ingredients:

  • 500g fish (such as salmon, cod, or tilapia), cut into medium-sized pieces
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 cup water
  • Fresh coriander leaves, chopped, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a small frying pan, dry roast the cumin and coriander seeds until fragrant. Let them cool, then grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
  2. Heat the oil in a large, deep pan over medium-high heat. Add the onions and fry until they are translucent and lightly browned, about 5-6 minutes.
  3. Add the ginger and garlic paste and fry for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies and cook until the tomatoes break down and turn into a thick sauce, about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add the ground cumin and coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pan. Stir well to combine all the spices.
  6. Add the fish pieces to the pan and gently stir them into the sauce to coat them evenly.
  7. Add one cup of water to the pan and bring the curry to a boil.
  8. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and simmer the curry for 15-20 minutes until the fish is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  9. Garnish the fish curry with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or bread.

Fish curry is a delicious and nutritious dish that is perfect for a hearty meal. The combination of spices and tangy tomato sauce pairs perfectly with the tender fish pieces. Enjoy!
