Aloo Paratha is a popular Indian flatbread made with a stuffing of spiced mashed potatoes. It is a breakfast dish that is enjoyed with yogurt, pickle, or chutney. Here is a recipe to make it at home:
Ingredients: For the dough:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Water, as needed
For the filling:
- 3 large potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- Oil or ghee, for cooking
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
- Add water as needed and knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In another mixing bowl, add the mashed potatoes, chopped onion, green chilies, cumin seeds, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and flatten them slightly. Take one ball and dust it with flour. Roll it out into a small disc.
- Place a spoonful of the potato filling in the center of the disc. Bring the edges of the disc towards the center to enclose the filling and seal it well.
- Dust the stuffed ball with flour and roll it out gently into a round paratha.
- Heat a griddle or tawa over medium heat. Once hot, place the rolled paratha on it. Cook for a minute or so, then flip and cook the other side.
- Apply some oil or ghee on the paratha and cook both sides until golden brown and crispy.
- Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls and filling.
- Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or chutney.
Enjoy your homemade Aloo Paratha!
